The Open Doors committee of the Organization for Transformative Works is dedicated to offering shelter to at-risk fannish projects. We have many different subprojects and rescue efforts aimed at archiving and preserving different kinds of fan works and artifacts of fan culture.

Our work includes:

Special Collections: The Open Doors "Special Collections" page currently hosts digital projects which cannot currently be integrated into the Archive of Our Own or Fanlore. These include .pdfs, multimedia fanworks, historically important fansites, and other digital artifacts. While some of these fanworks will later be integrated into the Archive or the wiki, others which have a particular historical significance or are structurally difficult to integrate may continue to be preserved as "special collections."

Fan Culture Preservation Project: The Fan Culture Preservation Project (FCPP) is a joint venture between the OTW and the Special Collections department at the University of Iowa to archive and preserve fanzines and other non-digital forms of fan culture. If you have zines or other artifacts of fan culture you no longer want (or more than you can manage!) but want to know they'll find a good home, please contact the OTW.

GeoCities Rescue: The GeoCities Rescue project is a project dedicated to preserving fan sites which would otherwise be lost through Yahoo's closing of GeoCities in October 2009.
