Here at the OTW, preserving fannish history is a central part of our mission! We're proud to be able to offer fans a place to host their works on the Archive of Our Own, and tell their own fannish histories on Fanlore. This month, bring us fannish April showers by digging out those old zines, memories of past cons, archived personal webpages, tales of shipwars and fannish events, works on slowly-decaying archives, and more! Upload your old works to the AO3 and tell your tales on Fanlore.

  • Special CFP: Transformative Works and Cultures

Fan fiction is often compared to the literature of Greco-Roman antiquity. Both fan writers and classical authors use the techniques of allusion, appropriation, and transvaluation to expand on and/or to critique existing works. Transformative Works and Cultures invite papers treating classical literature/art as fan work; papers on contemporary fannish uses/transformations of ancient Greek and Roman literature, mythology, or history; papers investigating similarities and differences between contemporary transformative fan work and classical literature and art; and papers reflecting on what is at stake in making the comparison: what potential benefits and risks does it bring? Submissions should be aimed primarily at a fan studies audience, but should also be credible contributions to the study of classical literature and its reception. Submit final papers directly to TWC by March 1, 2015.

The OTW's first membership drive of the year will run from 3-9 April 2013. This year's theme is "Fandom is Love" and will feature posts about fandom and the OTW by current staff and volunteers as well as other supporters of the organization.

While the OTW runs two week-long membership drives each year, we accept donations and new members year-round. A donation of 10 USD or greater confers membership in the organization for one year from the date of donation and the right to vote in Board of Directors elections.
