While fans are welcome to edit Fanlore at any time of the year, Stub September is a month-long challenge for anyone, newcomers and seasoned Fanlore editors alike, to pick a stub and expand on it. A stub is an article on Fanlore that is under-developed and missing important information. Right now, there are nearly 1800 existing pages on Fanlore that are already identified as stubs. You’re invited to find a page where you know something about the topic, and edit the page to add your new information.

In addition to the identified stubs, there are also pages that are missing specific examples to define or illustrate the page topic. This category, examples wanted, is much shorter and needs more specific information. If you know of any examples, just add them to the page.

Here at the OTW, preserving fannish history is a central part of our mission! We're proud to be able to offer fans a place to host their works on the Archive of Our Own, and tell their own fannish histories on Fanlore. This month, bring us fannish April showers by digging out those old zines, memories of past cons, archived personal webpages, tales of shipwars and fannish events, works on slowly-decaying archives, and more! Upload your old works to the AO3 and tell your tales on Fanlore.

This is a 2 hour chat where the OTW Tag Wrangling Committee is inviting people to find out about wrangling, or ask about tags at the Archive of Our Own. It will take place on the 22nd of April, 1900-2100 UTC.

The event will be held in the Public Discussion room of the Campfire site.

The committee will be holding additional open houses later in the year, at different times, so that people in different timezones have a chance to attend.

Our second official public chat with the six candidates for the OTW Board of Directors will be held approximately twenty hours from now, from 8pm to 9pm UTC on 26 October 2011 (find out what time that is in your location). The chat will be held in the OTW public discussion chatroom, accessible at this link: https://fanarchive.campfirenow.com/e79cc

For those who can't make it, a transcript of the chat will be made available as both text and screenshots on the elections website, linked at the top of our candidate information page. We encourage you to submit questions via our elections webform; questions will be taken within the chat as well, and will be accepted until the close of the chat. Unfortunatley, due to the scheduling challenges of holding this official chat at a time when all of our six candidates can attend, we are unable to extend the chat beyond an hour. We expect the chat to be well attended; if you have difficulty entering the room, please wait a moment and try again!

You can read the transcript or view the screenshot from the initial chat on the OTW Elections website, and the candidates' personal statements are available there as well.

Ascendio is going to be four days of non-stop Harry Potter fun! Approximately 1,000 Harry Potter fans will converge on Orlando from July 11-15 to celebrate the novels we love, the films that entertain us and all the fannish things that have been inspired by the Harry Potter series.

Ascendio is, at heart, an academic conference, meaning two of the days will feature a “Formal Programming” schedule of presentations, panels, workshops and roundtables including the Quill Track focusing on books and writing. Some of the authors, agents, editors and publishers include Lev Grossman (author), Cecilia Tan (publisher & author), and Omnific (publishing company). All of Ascendio’s content is by the fans, for the fans, though many of our presenters are academics, media personalities and “fandom celebrities.” In the U.S. and Harry Potter fandom, Ascendio is taking place from 11 July to 15 July at Universal Studios in Orlando, Florida.

The OTW will have an information table about the org at Ascendio. So if you'll be there, stop by and say hello to our volunteers!
