We regret to announce that Lucy Pearson has withdrawn her candidacy in the upcoming OTW Board elections. We are deeply saddened to lose her as a candidate, but also deeply glad for her to have a chance to take care of herself and her needs. Lucy: thank you for your candidacy; it's been an honour.

Lucy requested that the OTW Elections Officer post this statement to OTW members on her behalf.

I am formally withdrawing my candidacy in the OTW Board elections due to personal reasons. As this election has progressed, I have realised that the challenges facing the incoming 2012 Board are more complex and considerable than I had initially realised (I was expecting this to be a year of change, but had not realised the full extent). At the same time, my responsibilities in my own personal life and career have increased more substantially than anticipated. In light of this, I feel that I will not be able to perform my duties as an OTW Board member as well as I would want, or as well as OTW members deserve. I want OTW members to have as full and reliable a choice of candidates as possible, and I don't want to risk getting onto the Board and then finding that I can't do what I promised. So, while I believe I have a lot to offer the org, and a lot to offer a potential Board of the future, this isn't the year for me. Apologies to the many people who supported me - I'm sorry to have to disappoint you this time around.

    Thank you, and apologies again.

    Lucy

It's finally here — our last questions for OTW Board candidates and their answers! You can read those questions and answers here, on the OTW Elections website. Emphasis in these responses is on immediate answers rather than polished essays — just as in the chats.

Answers are listed in the order they were received, and any responses received after the deadline will be added to that page as soon as possible, with any post-publication changes noted. As this was the last batch, we've extended the period for timestamped edits to responses from 12 to 24 hours past the due date, which was before 16:05/4:05pm UTC 3 November 2011. All previous questions and answers, as well as the chat transcripts, can be found by starting here, on the OTW Elections site candidates page. The first chat and those overflow questions can be accessed directly here, and the second chat and those overflow questions can be accessed directly here.

Our trek is nearly over! We now present the fifth and penultimate batch of questions and answers from our candidates. You can read those questions and answers here, on the OTW Elections website. Answers are listed in the order they were received, and any responses received after the deadline will be added to that page as soon as possible, with any post-publication changes noted. Emphasis in these responses is on immediate answers rather than polished essays — just as in the chats.

There are only two questions left! We'll be sharing those around 24 hours from now — they were sent to candidates at 16:05/4:05pm UTC 2 November 2011, meaning they are due before 16:05/4:05pm UTC 3 November 2011; as this is the last batch, we've extended the period for timestamped edits to responses from 12 to 24 hours past the due date.

One final reminder! Today is the deadline to appoint a proxy for your vote.

We've got our fourth batch of questions and answers from our candidates ready for your perusal! You can read those questions and answers here, on the OTW Elections website. Answers are listed in the order they were received, and any responses received after the deadline will be added to that page as soon as possible, with any post-publication changes noted. Emphasis in these responses is on immediate answers rather than polished essays — just as in the chats.

At this point, we have five questions left! Three of them are currently with the candidates, and you can expect them around 24 hours from now — they were sent to candidates at 16:00/4:00pm UTC 1 November 2011, meaning they are due before 16:00/4:00pm UTC 2 November 2011.

We'd also like to remind all of our voters that tomorrow, 2 November 2011, is the deadline to assign a voting proxy (see our Elections timeline here). We know that the extended, electronic ballots that we use should make proxy voting unnecessary in most cases, but a voter might decide they need a proxy if the 48-hour voting period falls during a time when they may not have internet access, or when they have other commitments.

To assign a proxy, send an email from the account you used when you last donated, addressed to both elections-chair@transformativeworks.org and your proxy. State in the email that you wish to assign your proxy to the recipient, and include your legal name. Your proxy must reply to you and to elections-chair@transformativeworks.org to accept the responsibility, and to give us their legal name. Proxies remain in place for six months and cannot be revoked, so they aren't a back-up plan! Our elections website has a FAQ section on proxy voting with more details, if you think this may apply to you.

We're ready to share our third batch of questions from OTW members and responses from our candidates! You can read those questions and answers here, on the OTW Elections website. Answers are listed in the order they were received, and any responses that are received after the deadline will be added to that page as soon as possible, with any post-publication changes noted.

Again, the emphasis in these responses is on immediate answers rather than polished essays — just as in the chats.

With this post, we have hit the halfway mark. You really did have a lot of questions for them (which is awesome!), so we've concluded that our hard-working candidates deserve a breather! We'll be taking a very brief break, and will announce here when the fourth batch of questions and answers are ready.

We've passed our second 24 hour response period for our chat overflow questions, and have another batch of insightful questions and thoughtful answers from our candidates, posted now for your review. You can read those questions and answers here, on the OTW Elections website. Answers are listed in the order they were received, and any responses that are received after the deadline will be added to that page as soon as possible, with any post-publication changes noted.

To reiterate, these questions are being delivered in batches to the candidates, and they are being asked to submit answers within twenty-four hours of each email so that those responses can be publicly posted. The emphasis in these responses is on immediate answers rather than polished essays, and as previously, candidates were also asked to keep to the question topics.

The third batch of questions was sent to candidates at 01:15/1:15am UTC 29 October 2011; answers are due before 01:15/1:15am UTC 30 October 2011, and will be posted for public review in approximately 24 hours.

As stated in yesterday's second and final Board candidate chat, we are now sharing the responses to the first batch of overflow questions. The chat ended with questions pending — both those submitted live by chat attendees, and a queue of emailed questions submitted by OTW members, volunteers, and staff that had grown throughout the live chat period. Those questions are being delivered in batches to the candidates, and they are being asked to submit answers within twenty-four hours of each email so that those responses can be publicly posted. The emphasis in these responses is on immediate answers rather than polished essays, and as previously, candidates were also asked to keep to the question topics.

You can read those questions and answers here, on the OTW Elections website. Answers are listed in the order they were received, and any responses that are received after the deadline will be added to that page as soon as possible, with any post-publication changes noted.

We have also posted the transcript to the chat, both as a screenshot and as text, available here on the Elections website. We're also happy to announce again that thanks to the hard work of a volunteer, we have a digest version of the chat transcript available as well. The text is heavily edited, and includes only the questions and answers.

The second batch of questions has now been sent to candidates; answers will be posted for public review in approximately 24 hours. (Edited to add specifics: Questions submitted to candidates at 00:30/12:30am UTC 28 October 2011; answers due before 00:30/12:30am UTC 29 October 2011.)

The first of our two OTW elections chats was held at 1900 UTC 17 October 2011. We've posted a transcript and screenshot for any OTW members or supporters who missed the event and would like to catch up. As we have six candidates for the four seats available in this election, an hour-long chat proved tight! We've asked the candidates to answer the questions that were introduced but that went unanswered, and we will post their responses within the next day.

We encourage you to submit questions via our elections webform for the second chat, which will be held 26 October 2011 from 8pm to 9pm UTC (What time is that where I live?) in the OTW public chatroom, accessible at this link: https://fanarchive.campfirenow.com/e79cc.

You can read the transcript or view the screenshot here, on the OTW Elections website.

Also now available are the candidates personal statements — you can read them on the OTW Elections website.

We have now scheduled two one-hour chats with the candidates, open to all of our members and to the public. They will be held in the OTW public chatroom, accessible at this link: https://fanarchive.campfirenow.com/e79cc

While we strove to vary the times and days to allow better global accessibility for our membership, combining six schedules in order to allow all candidates to attend posed a challenge. If you believe you may be unable to attend but have questions for the candidates, we encourage you to submit them via our contact form to our elections officer, Ira Gladkova, who will present them on your behalf. Transcripts of elections chats will be made available as both text and as screenshots on the elections website shortly following each event.

The dates and times of the chats are as follows:

The candidates' personal statements will be available on the OTW Elections website beginning 17 October 2011. You may in the meantime feel free to contact our candidates unofficially to discuss the OTW and their views. They have asked the OTW to make available the following personal journal accounts:

Links are behind text to reduce random googleability and to keep fannish and legal identities separate. We ask that you please do not associate those identities publicly.

Election voting will run from noon UTC on 16 November (What time is that where I live?) to noon UTC on 18 November (What time is that where I live?). Voting is restricted to current OTW members; this includes anyone who has made a donation of US$10 or more between 1 October 2010 and 17 October 2011. To renew your membership, visit http://transformativeworks.org/how-you-can-help/support.
